What this settlement is about

Volkswagen settled claims that the main engine water pump in 3.6-liter Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs is prone to premature failure that can cascade into head gasket damage. The deal extends the new-vehicle warranty to pick up 80% of pump repair costs at authorized dealers and reimburses 80% of qualifying repairs already paid for before July 6, 2026. Claimants need repair invoices, proof of payment, VIN, and mileage records, and mail-in claim forms go to Rust Consulting. Repair reimbursement claims are due by October 5, 2026.

Who is eligible

Current and former owners or lessees of 2018-2022 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles with the 3.6-liter engine, purchased or leased in the United States or Puerto Rico.

Estimated payout

Reported by court notices and third-party sources, not yet confirmed on the official administrator site: 80% reimbursement of qualifying past water pump repairs (capped at $820 for the pump and $3,325 for related head gasket work at independent shops), plus an extended warranty covering 80% of future pump repairs for up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles.

No payment amount is ever guaranteed. Pro rata payouts shrink as more valid claims come in, and every payment waits on final court approval and any appeals.

Proof requirements

This settlement requires documentation. Check the official claim form for exactly what is accepted before you start; receipts, account statements, repair invoices, or records from the defendant are typical.
