What this settlement is about
Toyota agreed to a $78.5 million package of cash and credits to resolve claims that ZF-TRW airbag control units in several of its models could fail during a crash and prevent airbags from deploying. The deal became final after an appeal was dismissed in December 2025, and the claims window now runs through late 2028. Benefits include repayment of recall-related expenses, an extended warranty on the control unit, and a loaner vehicle program. Claims can be filed online or by mail through the court-appointed administrator.
Who is eligible
Anyone who owns, leases, or previously owned certain Toyota vehicles built with ZF-TRW airbag control units, including 2011-2019 Corolla, 2011-2013 Corolla Matrix, 2012-2018 Avalon, 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid, 2012-2019 Tacoma, 2012-2017 Tundra, and 2012-2017 Sequoia models.
Estimated payout
Reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket costs (repairs, towing, rental cars, etc.), plus extended warranty coverage on the airbag control unit and a possible residual cash distribution.
No payment amount is ever guaranteed. Pro rata payouts shrink as more valid claims come in, and every payment waits on final court approval and any appeals.
Proof requirements
Partial proof: the base payment does not require documents, but higher payment tiers (such as documented-loss reimbursement) do. You can usually file the simple tier with just the claim form, or attach records to claim more.
