What this settlement is about
The Munoz v. PHH Corp. litigation accused PHH of routing borrowers' private mortgage insurance premiums through its captive reinsurer, Atrium, in what plaintiffs characterized as a kickback scheme on 2007-2009 home loans. The settlement pays a flat $875 for each eligible loan to borrowers, or their heirs, who submit a valid claim form online or by mail. No supporting financial documentation is demanded beyond the completed form. The court granted final approval on December 19, 2025, and the claim window stays open until August 11, 2026.
Who is eligible
Borrowers who took out a residential mortgage from PHH or its affiliates between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2009 and paid for private mortgage insurance that was funneled into PHH's captive reinsurance arrangements. Heirs and successors of those borrowers can also claim.
Estimated payout
$875 per eligible loan.
No payment amount is ever guaranteed. Pro rata payouts shrink as more valid claims come in, and every payment waits on final court approval and any appeals.
Proof requirements
No documentation is required. You submit the claim form and attest to your eligibility; the administrator validates claims against available records.
