Penn Medicine patients alleged the health system embedded advertising trackers from Meta, Google, and others in its website and patient portal, quietly routing identifiable health-related browsing data to those companies. Penn denies wrongdoing but will pay up to $9.5 million to close the case. Portal users from the two-year class window can file online or by mail through September 16, 2026, using the ID and PIN printed on their notice, with payments expected to top out around $15 each.
Who is eligible
Patients who logged into the myPennMedicine patient portal at any point between January 23, 2021 and January 23, 2023. Claimants need the Notice ID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.
Estimated payout
A cash payment of up to $15 per class member.
No payment amount is ever guaranteed. Pro rata payouts shrink as more valid claims come in, and every payment waits on final court approval and any appeals.
Proof requirements
Partial proof: the base payment does not require documents, but higher payment tiers (such as documented-loss reimbursement) do. You can usually file the simple tier with just the claim form, or attach records to claim more.
