Metformin Recall Settlement (Teva/Granules/Heritage)

Teva, Granules, and Heritage put up a combined $5.55 million ($3 million from Teva, $2.55 million from the other two) to resolve claims that their generic metformin was tainted with NDMA, a probable carcinogen that drove widespread recalls in 2020. The class covers personal and household purchases of the affected diabetes drug between mid-2015 and mid-2020. Claimants can attest to their purchases, though pharmacy records, insurance statements, or prescription histories help the administrator validate larger claims. The filing window closes August 5, 2026, just ahead of the August 12, 2026 final approval hearing.

People who bought metformin-containing diabetes medication for themselves or their household between July 20, 2015 and June 2, 2020, where the drug was made, distributed, or sold by Teva, Actavis, Granules, or Heritage. Purchases for resale do not count.

Pro rata share of the $5.55 million combined fund based on qualifying purchases.

No payment amount is ever guaranteed. Pro rata payouts shrink as more valid claims come in, and every payment waits on final court approval and any appeals.
