What this settlement is about
Williams v. Duke University Health System alleged that tracking code embedded in Duke's MyChart portal and MyDuke Health app quietly relayed users' health-related browsing data to an outside vendor, reportedly Meta. Duke denies any wrongdoing but agreed to a fund of roughly $3.74 million to close out the case. Everyone who used the portal or app during the February 2019 to June 2022 window can file a simple claim form, no documentation attached, and receive an even split of whatever remains after fees and costs. The claim deadline is August 16, 2026, with the final approval hearing on August 27, 2026.
Who is eligible
Patients and other users who logged into the Duke MyChart patient portal or the MyDuke Health mobile app at any time between February 18, 2019 and June 17, 2022.
Estimated payout
Equal pro rata share of the net settlement fund for each valid claim.
No payment amount is ever guaranteed. Pro rata payouts shrink as more valid claims come in, and every payment waits on final court approval and any appeals.
Proof requirements
No documentation is required. You submit the claim form and attest to your eligibility; the administrator validates claims against available records.
